Apple Crisis Could Have Been Averted

Since it’s release, Apple has been collecting location data on it’s users of the iPhone. This has been very worrisome to various users and privacy advocate groups. However, for a solid week, Apple has been denying that it tracks users locations at all. Finally, a security researcher released a data file that showed that the iPhone was in fact gathering location data. Apple released a list of 10 questions recently saying that the location data doesn’t store the physical location of iPhone users, but instead keeps a list of cell phone towers and Wifi hot spots around the user. It does this so the phone doesn’t have to listen for faint GPS signals from satellites. The fact that Apple took so long to release this report is a crisis, according to experts, that could have been averted had Apple been upfront about the usage, or lack thereof, of the location data. Immediately upon releasing their phones, they should have released a privacy policy making clear the exact usage of this data. ...

Symantec says Facebook May Have Leaked Your Personal Info

After Sony PlayStation’s recent security breach (hackers managed to steal personal wealth information from its system), we now have Symantec reporting that Facebook might have accidentally leaked your personal information. This is a serious security issue where the world’s largest social networking platform should concern. According to Symantec’s blog post, third parties, in particular advertisers, have accidentally had access to Facebook users’ accounts including profiles, photographs, chat, and also had the ability to post messages and mine personal information. ...

Confirmed! Microsoft Bought Skype for $8.5 Billion

Its confirmed now! After Wall Street Journal’s report, All Things Digital has now confirmed that Microsoft just bought Skype for a huge amount of $8.5 billion. This deal to buy Internet telephone company Skype is officially going to be announced early tomorrow morning. Early reports indicated that Facebook and Google were also looking to acquire the telephony giant, but it was Microsoft with its highly aggressive bid which got them. To don’t know what is Skype, it allows users to make voice calls and chats over the Internet. Calls to other users within the Skype service are free, while calls to both traditional landline telephones and mobile phones can be made for a fee using a debit-based user account system. Bin Laden’s Compound Now Available as a Counter Strike Map

This one is a biggie if you are a Counter Strike fan! You can now download a map for Counter Strike where Osama Bin Laden was dwelling in Pakistan. This map is the place where Osama Bin Laden was hiding in Abbottabad, same compound which turned out to be his resting place. Microsoft Launched Business Intelligence Labs

RIM Announces BlackBerry 7 OS

Twitter Acquired TweetDeck For Over $40 Million

According to a report from TechCrunch, Twitter has won the battle and acquired TweetDeck for an approximate unconfirmed figure of over $40 million. Of course, you may remember the earlier reports that UberMedia acquired TweetDeck. Niow, what happened? Read on..
