Google's Chrome OS to debut in autumn

Google ditching Windows for Linux and Mac

Google is currently phasing out Windows-based PCs, and switching over to Mac and Linux operating systems, according to the Financial Times. Since the Google China attacks back in January, shortly after Google said it would end censorship in China, Google is removing Windows from its computers. Google is no longer offering new hires the option to run Windows-based PCs, without the approval of a CIO, and instead offering employees Mac computers or PCs running Linux operating system. Google was still allowing new hires to install Windows on their laptops, back in January, but not on their desktops. ...

3D without glasses likely by 2015

Consumers will likely see 3D LCD TVs that don’t require people to wear polarised glasses out on global markets by 2015, according to a Taiwanese research group that showed off an early version of such a device this week. Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) displayed a 42-inch glasses-free 3D LCD TV this week, and the company can currently make them with screens as large as 65 inches, according to Stephen Jeng, director of ITRI’s 3D System & Application Division. ...

Microsoft Bing to Replace Google Search in iPhone OS 4

According to sources, the next version of iPhone OS, which is set to release this June will have Bing as its default search engine in Mobile Safari. Microsoft and Apple have reportedly been in talks over a possible search deal since January of this year, but since then there has been no real news on this. After all the recent conflicts over Android, the removal of Google Search from iPhone shouldn’t come as a surprise. Are you aware of Google Gravity? It is an experiment created by Hi-ReS! wherein the objects from the Google frontpage will all fall down once you load the site. The only downside of this feature is that it the expected results are only visible using Google Chrome. Don’t try to do this using other browsers or you’d end up disappointed. It never works in IE, but somewhat works in Firefox though. ...

New Facebook Privacy Controls Start Rolling Out Tomorrow

On stage today at TechCrunch Disrupt in New York City, Facebook’s vice president of product Chris Cox announced that starting tomorrow, Facebook will be rolling out “drastically simplified” and improved privacy controls. He didn’t give any details, but did suggest that they should alleviate some of the recent privacy problems Facebook has faced. Ever since the recent wave of privacy backlash began following Facebook’s f8 conference, Facebook has been saying they were listening to feedback and would respond. No less than CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been talking about the issues very publicly. He has said they “missed the mark” and “made a bunch of mistakes.” He also has said they are working on a “simpler way to control your information.” ...

Google Is Activating 100,000 Android-Based Phones Daily

Google presented the slide below at its developer conference. Google says over 100,000 new Android-based handsets are activated every day. This suggests Google’s Android phone growth is greater than Apple’s iPhone growth. Last quarter, Apple reported sales of 8.75 million iPhones, which is 97,222 units per day. It’s possible Apple’s iPhone sales grew in the last month, but it seems that at best, it is running even with Google. Considering Apple’s head start, this is astounding. ...
