53% of Indians Have Been Victims of Mobile Phone Loss or Theft

March 22, 2011 by Avinash Leave a Comment

Mobile phones today have become an essential tool in our everyday life as our primary way to communicate, work, share and collaborate.

A survey conducted by Symantec (a security product and solutions provider) stated that 53% of adults in India have fallen victim to mobile phone loss or theft, but despite that, only two in five Indians currently have a password protecting their devices.

image

“The survey results are clear: mobile phone loss and theft is a significant issue for Indians today,” says Gaurav Kanwal, Country Sales Manager, India, Consumer Products and Solutions, Symantec.

Some interesting facts from the survey:

Indians have their phones lost or stolen 1.5 times every five years on average.

77% of victims considered the loss of contact information the worst part of the experience and also a huge inconvenience.

‘Anger’ was the single most dominant feeling expressed by victims of mobile theft.

74% could neither remotely lock nor wipe the phone’s memory after it was lost or stolen.

82% finds the process of resolving the situation difficult; 90% finds the experience stressful.

More than half of the victims said that they were willing to pay a ransom (an average of Rs. 3,692) to resolve the situation, but in reality they pay up to three times the price.

3 in 10 Indians said that the situation was never resolved.

AT&T To Acquire T-Mobile USA for $39 Billion

March 20, 2011 by Avinash Leave a Comment

AT&T said it entered a definitive agreement with Deutsche Telekom AG (DTE) to acquire T- Mobile USA in a cash-and-stock transaction currently valued at approximately $39 billion a few minutes ago.
The agreement has been approved by the Boards of Directors of both companies, Deutsche Telekom said in a statement.

AT&T’s acquisition of T-Mobile USA provides an optimal combination of network assets to add capacity sooner than any alternative, and it provides an opportunity to improve network quality in the near term for both companies’ customers. In addition, it provides a fast, efficient and certain solution to the impending exhaustion of wireless spectrum in some markets, which limits both companies’ ability to meet the ongoing explosive demand for mobile broadband.

ICANN Approves .XXX Domain Names

March 19, 2011 by Avinash Leave a Comment

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has now approved the .XXX top-level domain. The adult entertainment sites will officially be able to label their websites with a .XXX domain name ending a 10 year battle.

image

The resolution passed despite large-scale protests from the adult entertainment industry, which is angry that they will have to repurchase domain names.

Thousands of adult entertainment website owners recognize the business benefits of .XXX and have already applied to pre-reserve over 200,000 .XXX domains. .COM websites have been able to pre-register their .XXX domain for free since last year, but others will be forced to pay up to $70 to make the change.

We can expect a gold rush in purchasing .XXX domains and equally we will have to wait for how many countries will ban the .XXX sites from its first day.

Adobe Releases Flash to HTML5 Converter – Wallaby

March 8, 2011 by Avinash Leave a Comment

To compete the HTML5 competence, Adobe released a new experimental Flash to HTML5 conversion tool (codenamed Wallaby)yesterday night.

"Wallaby" is the codename for an experimental technology that converts the artwork and animation contained in Adobe® Flash® Professional (FLA) files into HTML. Its just a matter of dragging and dropping thing to convert flash files into HTML5. The company is specifically hoping this tool will make it easier for designers and developers to get their content onto iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad.

image

Once these files are converted to HTML, you can edit them with an HTML editing tool, such as Adobe Dreamweaver, or by hand if desired. You can view the output in one of the supported browsers or on an iOS device.

Adobe feels there’s still room in the current technological and creative spaces for Flash, but it doesn’t think that either Flash or HTML5 has to exist to the exclusion of the other.

Wallaby is not a final product and is still in the testing and validation phase. Test it from the Adobe labs page http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/wallaby/

LinkedIn took an advanced and aggressive measure today in response to Gawker Media’s massive security breach. Most of the Gawker comprised users got an email that their account is suspended from any further data breach.

LinkedIn email to users read –

Songs.pk makes Profit of Rs.12 Crores per day. Stop Downloading!

December 5, 2010 by Avinash Leave a Comment

I’ve recently came across this strange news about a Pakistani website (old news indeed), who have got around 12 lakh Indian users. This discussion raised again after the recent attack by Pakistan Cyber Army on over 270 Indian websites including CBI’s official website.

image

Cyber war between India and Pakistan is very old and anti-India elements in Pakistan are planning to attack Indian computer networks. There are some websites constantly in news for supporting terrorism. Songs.pk is one of the websites in the list.

The website www.songs.pk has over 12 lakh Indian users who are downloading stuff from these websites daily.

This website is reportedly hosted by a hacker from Pakistan and is targeting Indian users.

The site is infested with bots, worms to hack data from targeted computers.

It will take only a few minutes for hackers to take command of over 12 lakh computers and the number can multiply in every minute.

Songs.pk has 676 traffic ranks in world by Alexa.

It is getting 1627218 page views per day.

According to Yahoo, it has 22168 backlinks.

Estimated worth of this website is around USD 3.56 Million.

This Pakistani website makes profit of Rs 12 Crores per day!

It supplies all illegal money to terrorism.

This news is only for public awareness so that all of you can safeguard from any illegal issues. Before downloading any content from this website, think again. I even wonder why a single Bollywood biggie ever came forward to fight against these kind of sites which promotes piracy and terrorism.
