Siemens Opens ‘The Crystal’ in UK To Promote Greener Cities

September 27, 2012 by Avinash Leave a Comment

Siemens has opened its first center for sustainable urban development in London, UK that claims to host the largest exhibition and conference center in the world dedicated to promoting smart city technologies in the project name ‘The Crystal’.

The glass paneled building cost around $50 million is to help cities of the future embrace new technologies and tackle growing populations and resource scarcity.

What is Crystal?

“The Crystal is a sustainable cities initiative by Siemens that explores how we can create a better future for our cities. It is home to the world’s largest exhibition focused on urban sustainability.

As a world-class centre for dialogue, discovery and learning, it reveals the challenges that cities face, and the ways we can reduce their environmental impact using sustainable technologies, many available today.”

This project is for everyone and brings together mayors, city decision-makers, politiciaons, urban planners, architects and infrastructure experts as well as the local community, international visitors and educational groups, from school children to post-graduate students. The Crystal is one of the world’s greenest buildings, with exemplary BREEAM and LEED accreditation.

The Crystal which is located on the waterfront at the western end of the Royal Victoria Docks in East London is an “all electric” building, which operates free from fossil fuels, thanks to a large number of solar panels on the roof. Battery storage will ensure that any excess energy generated doesn’t go to waste. This centre is the largest of three planned by the company, with two smaller facilities planned for Shanghai and Washington. Following its two inaugural conferences, it will open to the public on this September 29.

“Cities worldwide are making investments to improve their water supplies, power grids, transportation systems and building infrastructure. In this growth market, the Crystal will help us intensify dialogue with our customers,” says Roland Busch, chief executive of the company’s Infrastructure and Cities sector.

According to Siemens, cities account for around 80% of global economic output, two-thirds of global energy consumption, and 70% of worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.

Why Internet Technology Aids With Due Date Approximation

March 3, 2012 by Avinash Leave a Comment

Over the years internet penetration has increased exponentially. Lifestyles have evolved and the level of dependency was never higher. Internet technology has had a huge impact on peoples’ lives. It has redefined the way people think and behave.

Internet has given individuals access to unlimited knowledge. Perceptions and opinions have been changed with time. Life in general has become more dynamic and fast-paced than it ever was. Productivity and efficiency have been improved as a result.
Internet technology has allowed people to explore new horizons. The overall technological advancement has been helped by internet technology. Even the way people do business has evolved with the adoption of internet.

Internet

Manufacturing and supply chain processes have been made easier and simpler with the introduction of this technology. Automation of certain business processes by making use of internet has made them more effective and efficient. Chances of error have been reduced drastically.

The calculation of lead time in manufacturing processes is now done by using internet based software. Networking allows different workstations to be connected together and share information. Therefore, internet technology aids in due date approximation through management systems with internet options.

Due date approximation will help a business in identifying when repairs and maintenance are due or when certain operations can be performed. Some internet based software will even analyze the costs and other factors which can affect due dates.
Even in case of day-to-day business operations, due dates are very important. For example, due date approximation will help managers calculate when salaries are to be paid. Even for specific tasks, these due dates have to be considered.

This approximation makes it much easier for the business to optimize their processes and increase their productivity. All these tasks were done manually which took more time and was more costly. Internet technology has helped reduce the time, money and energy spent on each task.

Businesses can now have a more proactive approach towards their operations in general. All departments and intermediaries involved in a particular process can be linked together. They can share information in real time which makes the task much easier.

Internet options have also been adopted in the medical world. Doctors can now use internet technology for due date approximation. Devices which use internet technology to transmit information directly to a patient’s medical consultant are being introduced.
One of the most common devices being researched upon will help manage heart problems. This device will transmit pulse signals to a receiver via internet connectivity. It will indicate when a checkup is due and in case anything goes wrong.

This will allow doctors to take timely action and save lives. It is believed that such devices will help in managing health problems better and enable doctors and patients to be better prepared to take necessary actions in emergency situations.

It is also being said that these devices will be able to serve a wide range of purposes. Some specific ones will also help in due date approximations in case of pregnancies as well. This is already being done through other techniques but it is said that devices with internet options will be more precise and accurate.

Due date approximation has always been done, but with the use of internet technology it has been made more accurate. It will allow you to take the right decision at the right time by being prepared beforehand.

In more dramatic situations, it can help save lives but in the daily life, it can help businesses maximize their profits. We often do not realize how important due date approximation is in our daily lives. The fact is, it helps us in managing our schedules and our expenses too.

We use due date approximations to make our budgets for the month. This is one of the most basic individual adaptations that can be used. It is easy to evaluate the importance of these dates on a micro level. The effect that they have on a macro level is more significant.

Internet technology has revolutionized the way people live their lives. Many people criticize it for the many disadvantages that it has but they tend to ignore the advantages. They do not realize how much this technology has helped us. Due date approximation is probably one of the smallest aspects that were affected by technological advancements and even that had such huge impacts.

Amazon India Goes Live With Junglee.com

February 2, 2012 by Avinash Leave a Comment

As rumored few days back, Amazon launched its online shopping service in India with Junglee.com. As of writing this article, you cannot directly buy products from the website which is still in beta service. One of the reasons could be the government’s approval in retail market.

For now, you can only find and discover products, making it as purchase decision making site than a purchase site.

image

According to the website listing, customers can discover over 1.2 crore products and 14,000 brands and purchase items directly from hundreds of retailers including Homeshop18, UniverCell, Hidesign, Gitanjali, The Bombay Store, Fabindia, Bata India Limited, Dabur Uveda, Microsoft India Store, Reebok, and Amazon.com.

The name Junglee (means ‘of the jungle’ ) came from the company Junglee Corp which was acquired by Amazon.com in 1998 which provides a huge database to help shoppers. You can still use using existing Amazon.com account for logging in and provide user reviews and other details.

AT&T Launches New Data Plans (More Expensive)

January 19, 2012 by Avinash Leave a Comment

AT&T announced today new data plans (more expensive now!) for smartphone and tablet customers with large data allocations – but they are taking out the least $15 plan.

The new plans replace existing $15 and $25 plans with $20 and $30 (with an increase in bandwidth of course!).

image

Existing customers can keep their existing plans if they want to, and all new contracts taken out from Sunday will automatically use the new plans.

According to the official press release –

“Customers are using more data than ever before,” said David Christopher, chief marketing officer, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “Our new plans are driven by this increasing demand in a highly competitive environment, and continue to deliver a great value to customers, especially as we continue our 4G LTE deployment.”

The new smartphone plans include:

  • DataPlus 300MB: $20 for 300MB + $20 for each additional 300MB
  • DataPro 3GB: $30 for 3GB + $10 for each additional GB
  • DataPro 5GB: $50 for 5GB, with mobile hotspot/tethering, + $10 for each additional GB

In comparison, the older data plans price is as mentioned below:

  • DataPlus: 200 MB for $15 + $15 for each additional 200MB
  • DataPro: 2 GB $25 + $10 for each additional GB
  • Tethering: DataPro + $20/month (additional 2 GB of data included)

The new tablet plans include:

  • The existing 250 MB for $15
  • AT&T DataConnect 3GB: $30 for 3GB
  • AT&T DataConnect 5GB: $50 for 5GB

Needless to say, current users keep their old plans. But taking out of the 250 MB (for $15) is really bad because paying $5 more for just 50 MB increase is not a good move. No option for new customers from this Sunday, January 22. Your thoughts?

How To Increase Your Privacy On The Internet

November 19, 2011 by Avinash 3 Comments

If you are concerned with the internet security and privacy of your computer due to so many threats existing in the world of internet connection, then you would want to find out how to increase these features inside your device. It has been confirmed that at least 1% of PC users contact the malware which is destined to steal financial information from your personal computer.

The following steps will help you get an increased internet security to avoid being exposed to these sorts of threats:

* The first step to take is to make sure that the anti-virus software is installed on the computer. You could access one of these anti-virus software-s for free and download it right on the Internet. Keep in mind that the software needs to be updated, as there will always be a new virus and/or malware that the new anti-virus software will be able to detect and delete.

* Secondly, have the anti-spyware software installed and update it as well. It is good to know that many of these spyware-s can be detected and deleted from the anti-virus software, but to keep you protected for the future it is good to install one of these anti-spyware software.
Through the spyware you can become one of the victims of identity theft, therefore internet security experts suggest that it is better to have Spybot Search & Destroy along with other two such software to help you stay safe and secure. They can be also downloaded online for free. Through Windows Vista you are offered the Windows Defender, also included for free inside the program.

* Install a firewall, if there isn’t already one installed, the same that Windows XP and Vista have included for free for their users. Make sure that this one is activated.

* Internet security and privacy is moreover essential if you have a wireless connection. Make sure to encrypt the Wi-Fi network with the strongest encryption format that your network supports. If not, you will be exposed to anyone within a distance of ten miles to capture your bandwidth and steal it. Your internet connection can be easily used by a hacker and access sites that are illegal or even loaded with potential malicious software.

* Another way to provide internet security is to keep the modem and router turned off in case you don’t operate with your computer for a longer period of time. It is impossible for anyone to violate a computer network if all these devices are disconnected.

* The last thing to do for benefiting from internet security and privacy is to make sure that the OS is updated and that the latest security patches are already downloaded.

It is quite obvious that no one could guarantee for a 100% internet security and privacy, but at least you can do all your best to get these ways ensured for your computer’s well being.
