We are moving from Cloud1 to Cloud2

March 30, 2010 by Avinash Leave a Comment

The future of our industry now looks totally different than the past. It looks like a sheet of paper, and it’s called the iPad. It’s not about typing or clicking; it’s about touching. It’s not about text, or even animation, it’s about video. It’s not about a local disk, or even a desktop, it’s about the cloud. It’s not about pulling information; it’s about push.
iPad

We are moving from Cloud 1 to Cloud 2, and the iPad is the accelerator. Many of them haven’t even made it to Cloud 1—some are still on mainframes. The iPad that shows us what now is really possible—and that we all need to go faster.
Cloud 1 ————————————->Cloud 2
Type/Click———————————->Touch
Yahoo/Amazon—————————–>Facebook
Tabs——————————————>Feeds
Chat——————————————>Video
Pull——————————————->Push
Create—————————————->Consume
Location Unknown————————->Location Known
Desktop/notebook————————->Smart phone/Tablet
Windows/Mac——————————>Cocoa/HTML 5

Apple to Launch to iPhone 4G on Verizon this Summer

March 30, 2010 by Avinash Leave a Comment

The "iPhone on Verizon" topic is hardly new at all. Earlier this year analysts predicted that AT&T may lose exclusive deal for the iPhone with Apple and that Apple may plan to bring the iPhone to another carrier.

The model that has CDMA capability, used by Verizon Wireless, is being manufactured by Pegatron Technology Corp. One person familiar with the situation said Pegatron is scheduled to start mass producing the CDMA iPhones in September, but it was unclear when Apple might make the model available.

This is definitely a brilliant news for all the consumers out there who want to explore the iPhone with more carrier options. However! WSJ’s word on this is not to taken as last because previously such reports have been proved to be false.

OfficeTalk – Twitter like service from Microsoft

March 24, 2010 by Avinash 4 Comments

Microsoft is testing a microblogging service – Office Talk that is much like Twitter.
OfficeTalk is being developed by OfficeLabs, the MS lab for testing internally developed ideas.
The service looks almost identical to Twitter.

Few words from the official website:
“Ever wish you could share information broadly within your organization without emailing everyone? Ever wish you could keep the pulse of what people in your organization think is interesting? Microblogging has that potential. OfficeTalk is a concept test to explore the value of microblogging in the enterprise. OfficeTalk is deployed internally at Microsoft and has seen over 10,000 visitors and hundreds of messages posted daily. We’re now making OfficeTalk available to a few customers in a small pilot test. Because this is an early-stage concept, the OfficeTalk microblogging experience itself looks very similar to other well-known services.”

Google Shuts Down Censored Search in China

March 23, 2010 by Avinash Leave a Comment

It’s a sad day for all Google users in China since the site’s search operations have been shutdown completely and Google.cn is now redirecting towards Google.com.hk
Here is an update from the official Google blog:
So earlier today we stopped censoring our search services—Google Search, Google News, and Google Images—on Google.cn. Users visiting Google.cn are now being redirected to Google.com.hk, where we are offering uncensored search in simplified Chinese, specifically designed for users in mainland China and delivered via our servers in Hong Kong. Users in Hong Kong will continue to receive their existing uncensored, traditional Chinese service, also from Google.com.hk. Due to the increased load on our Hong Kong servers and the complicated nature of these changes, users may see some slowdown in service or find some products temporarily inaccessible as we switch everything over.

Google Makes Exchanging Microsoft Exchange For Google Apps A Bit Easier

March 17, 2010 by Avinash Leave a Comment

Last year, Google announced a new plug-in that syncs Google’s enterprise versions of Apps, including Gmail, contacts, and calendar, with Microsoft’s Outlook. And Google just acquired Docverse, an application lets users collaborate directly on Microsoft Office documents. Today Google is taking another swipe at Microsoft with a new tool that makes it significantly easier to make the switch over to Google Apps from Microsoft Exchange.
